National Workshop for the White-shouldered Ibis 5-Year Conservation Action Plan

19 December 2025

Cambodia is home to the largest remaining population of the Critically Endangered White-shouldered Ibis, with fewer than 1,000 mature individuals left globally. Protecting this iconic species is urgent.

On 19 December 2025, key stakeholders from government agencies, conservation NGOs, wildlife sanctuary managers, and academia will come together to finalize and launch the Cambodian White-shouldered Ibis Action Plan (2026–2030). This national workshop aims to build consensus, strengthen partnerships, and agree on clear actions to safeguard ibis habitats, protect nesting sites, and engage local communities.

With around 45 participants from the Ministry of Environment, Forestry Administration, wildlife sanctuaries, NatureLife Cambodia, Rising Phoenix, WCS, ACCB, WWF, Royal University of Phnom Penh and other conservation NGOs, this workshop marks an important step toward a coordinated, evidence-based roadmap aligned with Cambodia’s national environmental policies.

Together, we can secure a future for the White-shouldered Ibis and the unique ecosystems it depends on.
