Sarus Crane Breeding Success in Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary

During the 2025 breeding season, NatureLife Cambodia’s biodiversity monitoring team recorded six Sarus Crane nests in Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary. Five nests successfully hatched, resulting in six chicks—a positive sign that the crane population remains stable compared to 2024.
The Sarus Crane, the world’s tallest flying bird and a Vulnerable species, continues to breed in Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary, where NatureLife Cambodia is implementing the REDD+ project to protect critical habitats.
However, breeding success is still under threat from human disturbance (collection of non-timber forest products) and natural predators. This season, our team confirmed a case of wild boar predation on a crane nest.
Join us in protecting the volunerable Sarus Cranes and their habitat in Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary. Together, we can ensure their future.
