Cambodia Vulture Working Group Strengthens Commitment to Vulture Conservation

On 20 August 2026, members of the Cambodia Vulture Working Group (CVWG) convened in person and zoom to review progress and strengthen coordination for vulture conservation across Cambodia. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Hong Chamnann, representative of working group chairman from the Ministry of Environment, and attended by representatives from the Ministry of Environment, WWF, WCS, NatureLife Cambodia, Rising Phoenix, ACCB, and CBC.

During the meeting, CVWG members endorsed the 2025 Cambodia Vulture Conservation Report and agreed to prepare for International Vulture Awareness Day 2026 and to speed up the development and finalization of Cambodia’s next 10-year Vulture Conservation Action Plan, which will provide a strategic framework for protecting Cambodia’s remaining vulture populations and addressing the threats they face.

The CVWG also agreed to support the Ministry of Environment in hosting the Asia Regional Steering Committee (RSC) meeting on vulture conservation in Phnom Penh. This international meeting is expected to bring together government senior officers and conservationists from Cambodia, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Lao—countries that play an important role in conserving Asia’s remaining vulture populations.
