Capacity Building for the Crane Rice Committees

On July 21, 2026, NatureLife Cambodia hosted a meeting and training titled “Strengthening Crane Rice Committees and Farm Diary Recording” at the Anlung Pring Protected Landscape office in Kampot province. The workshop brought together 12 committee members representing Koh Chamkar, Anlung Pring, Chres, and Koh Tnot villages.

The meeting focused on three main priorities:

– Committee Integration: Merging the Red Jasmine Rice Production Group Committee with the existing Crane Rice Committee to improve coordination, communication, and collaboration among farmers across all four villages.

– Role and Responsibility Review: Clarifying committee duties, which include supporting sustainable rice production, monitoring farming activities, liaising with project teams, and promoting compliance with Crane Rice standards.

– Technical Training: Building committee members’ capacity to guide local farmers in keeping farm diaries. These record books track essential data, including farmer profiles, land preparation, seed and fertilizer use, pest and disease management, labor, production costs, harvesting, and sales.

During the workshop, participants engaged in practical exercises and group discussions to master accurate diary entries, guided by NatureLife Cambodia technical officers.

By restructuring the committee and sharpening record-keeping skills, members are now better equipped to work together, optimize paddy field management, drive sustainable rice production, and contribute to the conservation of Sarus Cranes and their natural habitats.
