Kon Mom District Authorities Encourage Lomphat REDD+ Scholarship Recipients to Pursue Their Education

On 25 September 2026, the Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary REDD+ Project (LWS REDD+), implemented by NatureLife Cambodia (NLC), organized a meeting between Kon Mom District authorities and scholarship recipients at the Kon Mom District Hall in Ratanakiri Province. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Phorn Sopheap, Deputy District Governor of Kon Mom District, and attended by 13 participants, including scholarship recipients, parents, district authority staff, and NLC staff.

During the meeting, Mr. Mogn Penh, Lomphat Project Manager at NLC, presented the results of a follow-up study of 10 students who had received scholarship support from the project during their first year of study.

Following the presentation, Mr. Phorn Sopheap encouraged the students to remain committed to their studies and make the most of the scholarship opportunities provided by the project.

“I encourage the students to work hard in their studies, make meaningful use of the scholarship support from the Lomphat REDD+ Project, and stay away from drugs and other harmful activities. Use this opportunity to develop yourselves into good children, good students, and responsible citizens who can contribute positively to society,” he said.

He also called on parents and guardians to continue supporting, motivating, and following up on their children’s education. In addition, he encouraged families to work closely with the LWS REDD+ Project to protect forests and conserve natural resources for the benefit of future generations.

The scholarship initiative supports students and young people from target villages who face financial challenges in pursuing high school or vocational education. By helping them continue their education and develop practical skills, the project aims to expand opportunities for young people to build a better future.

Linking Education, Community Development, and Conservation The scholarship initiative reflects the important link between nature conservation, education, and community development. By investing in young people from communities surrounding Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary, the LWS REDD+ Project helps strengthen local human resources and encourages the next generation to contribute to sustainable natural resource management and forest conservation.
