​Regional Flyway Initiative Wetland Ecosystem Services Cambodia Training Workshop

Dr. Srey Sunleang, Deputy Director-General of the General Directorate of Natural Protected Area, gave open remark during workshop

On 13 and 14 September 2023, NatureLife Cambodia in collaboration with the General Directorate of Natural Protected Area and BirdLife International, together with the Asian Development Bank, East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership, and University of Southampton convened a capacity training workshop on wetland ecosystem service assessment in Cambodia. The objective of this workshop is to train stakeholders and wetland managers on the basic tools for assessing ecosystem services and gather input from stakeholders for identifying the priority regional flyway initiative sites in Cambodia.   Presided by Dr. Srey Sunleang, Deputy Director-General of the General Directorate of Natural Protected Area, and Ms. Jyotsana Varma, Country Director of the Asian Development Bank in Cambodia, the workshop was participated by 45 people including, the directors and deputy-directors of departments, director and deputy directors of the provincial department of environments, deputy governors, site managers, rangers, and representatives of NGOs working on Cambodian wetlands.   The Regional Flyway Initiative has identified 9 priority sites in Cambodia such as Boeung Prek Lpov protected landscape, Anlung Pring Protected Landscape, Kok Kapik Ramsar site, Boeung Tonle Chmar Ramsar site, Prek Toal Ramsar site and Ang Tropeang Thmor protected landscape. On behalf of the General Directorate of Natural Protected Areas, Dr. Srey Sunleang congratulated participants on a fruitful training session and expressed hope that more such training opportunities can be provided for site managers. He noted that the Regional Flyway Initiative will proceed to prioritise sites to pilot project implementation to ensure effective wetland management and conservation in Cambodia.
