Result of 2026 Asian Waterbird Census in Boeng Prek Lpov and Anlung Pring Protected Landscapes
By Ly Samphors

In January 2026, NatureLife Cambodia, in collaboration with rangers from both protected landscapes, conducted the Asian Waterbird and Black-faced Spoonbill Census at Boeng Prek Lpov Protected Landscape (BPL) and Anlung Pring Protected Landscape (AP).
This important annual monitoring activity was carried out by rangers, field monitoring teams, and the technical team of NatureLife Cambodia based in these protected areas.
As a result, we recorded:
• 94 bird species at Boeng Prek Lpov
• 67 bird species at Anlung Pring

Unfortunately, the Black-faced Spoonbill previously recorded at Boeng Prek Lpov in 2011 and 2012 was not sighted this year.
Wetlands are increasingly under pressure. Climate change is causing faster drying, and human disturbance remains a serious concern.

NatureLife Cambodia and the rangers continue working to monitor and conserve the remaining wetlands in the Lower Mekong Delta, including supporting the accelerated development of the Boeng Prek Lpov Protected Landscape zoning plan.
