Economic Land Concession Company Establishes Wildlife Observation Tower in Set-Aside Conservation Area
By Mourng Bunmart

With coordination support from NatureLife Cambodia, in February 2026, THACO AGRI completed the construction of a wildlife observation tower within a 25-hectare area that has been officially set aside for the conservation of endangered bird species.
The 10-metre-high observation tower, covering 7 square metres, was constructed using steel and reinforced concrete. It is located within the Endangered Species Conservation Area inside THACO AGRI’s Economic Land Concession in Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary, Ratanakiri Province.
The tower will be used monthly by NatureLife Cambodia’s field staff and the O’Rey Community Protected Area Committee to monitor wildlife and support ongoing conservation efforts.

Please be informed that after years of advocacy and constructive negotiations led by NatureLife Cambodia, THACO AGRI agreed to allocate 25 hectares of its leased land specifically for endangered bird conservation. This commitment demonstrates the company’s growing engagement in biodiversity protection, particularly for key species such as the Giant Ibis and the Sarus Crane, both of which occur within the concession area.
We would like to thank the Oxfam-Fair for All project for its financial support for the negotiations with this ELC company.
